Keita is an all-around average 11 year old boy from Sakura New Town. He discovers a capsule machine one day in a forest by a sacred tree. He decides to buy a capsule and once it was opened a ghostly Yokai reveals himself and becomes a companion of Keita. Whisper also gives Keita a Yokai Watch which can reveal Yokai and interact with them.
|Whisper reveals himself to Keita after being freed from Gashapon. He becomes Keita’s personal ghostly butler and helps Keita learn about the Yokai World and their interaction with the human world. Whisper is very knowledgeable about Yokai and together they solve problems as they interact with both humans and Yokai.|
|Jibanyan is the ghost of a cat who died being hit by a car when crossing an intersection in Sakura New Town. He has since become a residual haunting and possesses people to make them cross the street without waiting for the signal, all so he can attempt to fight the cars in revenge for his death, but he often fails. He reveals to Keita that he was once owned by a girl he only knows as Emi-chan, but when she discovered he had died, she simply muttered “Loser”, causing Jibanyan great distress. When Keita believes that Jibanyan is brave for his actions, Jibanyan is surprised and overwhelmed with joy, forming a contract with Keita. In the promotions for Yo-Kai Watch 2, it is revealed that you can fuse Whisper and Jibanyan together to create Buchinyan|
|Fumi is a girl in Keita’s class at school. She is highly intelligent, but is worried that she does not meet her mother’s standards. She is an alternate choice for the main character in the video game version and possesses a Yo-Kai Watch that hangs around her neck rather than one worn on her wrist.|
